Privacy policy

Last updated: October 11, 2026

Tax Playbook ("we," "us," or "our") is an educational tax planning tool. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights over it. By creating an account you agree to this policy.

Information we collect

Account data: Your name, email address, and hashed password when you register.

Tax profile data: Income figures, deduction items, filing status, residency state, account types, and contribution amounts you enter to generate tax projections. This information is provided by you and is used solely to calculate estimates within the app.

Documents: Pay stubs, W-2s, or other files you upload during onboarding or within the app. These are stored securely and used only to pre-fill your tax profile.

Usage data: Pages visited, features used, and error logs to help us improve the product. We do not sell or share this data for advertising purposes.

How we use your information

We use the information you provide to:

  • Run and improve the Tax Playbook service
  • Calculate tax projections and surface relevant planning scenarios
  • Send transactional emails (account verification, password reset, billing receipts)
  • Respond to support requests
  • Comply with applicable law

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your tax or financial data for advertising or share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

Service providers

We use a limited number of trusted third-party providers to operate the service. Our primary database and file storage provider is Supabase, which stores data on infrastructure hosted within the United States. We may also use an email delivery provider for transactional messages. These providers process data only on our behalf and are contractually required to protect it.

Data security

All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plaintext. We apply least-privilege access controls and review our security practices regularly. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable and industry-standard measures to protect your information.

Data retention

We retain your account and tax profile data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. If you delete your account, we will permanently delete your personal data and tax profile within 30 days, except where retention is required by law. Uploaded documents are deleted immediately upon account deletion.

Your rights and choices

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information via your account settings
  • Delete your account and all associated data from your account settings page
  • Opt out of non-transactional emails using the unsubscribe link in any email we send

California residents may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information is collected and the right to non-discrimination for exercising privacy rights. To make a request, contact us at the address below.

Not professional advice

Tax Playbook is educational software. Nothing in the product constitutes tax, legal, or investment advice. All projections are estimates based on the information you enter. Consult a qualified tax professional before making decisions specific to your situation.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by posting a notice in the app at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the service after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
